Liquid crystal, on a switch.
A thin film is laminated to the glass. Between two conductive layers sit microscopic liquid crystal droplets. Knowing this helps you explain the product on site and diagnose a panel that is not switching.
- OffDroplets point in random directions and scatter light. The glass looks frosted.
- OnA low voltage lines the droplets up. Light passes straight through and the glass is clear.
